They never learn

A University of Arizona Police Department officer responded to Hopi Residence Hall in reference to a strong smell of marijuana on Friday at around 1 p.m.

An officer spoke with a resident assistant of the hall, who said he could smell marijuana coming from one of the dorm rooms.

After the officer knocked on the student’s door a few times, the student answered and agreed to let the officer enter the room and ask a few questions.

Once inside the room, the officer could smell an even stronger odor of marijuana and questioned the student about the smell.

The student, identified by a Connecticut driver’s license, said he did not know why the room smelled. He also refused to let the officer search the room.

Another officer arrived at the dorm and was able to get permission from the student to search the room.

The officer found a grinder and a smoking pipe in the student’s desk.

Men won’t claim mysterious marijuana

A UAPD officer responded to Hopi Residence Hall in reference to a strong smell of burning marijuana.

The on-duty Resident Assistant Wednesday night told UAPD that at about 10:30 he could smell the marijuana coming from the west wing of the hall and identified the room where it smelled the strongest.

When the officer knocked on the door, it was answered by two residents who agreed to allow the officer in the room to ask them questions.

Both men claimed that they did not know where the smell was coming from and they did not know why there was an odor in their room.

The officer noticed an unlabeled prescription pill bottle on top of the refrigerator, which contained small particles that appeared to be marijuana.

The residents denied the officer consent to search the room and they both denied ownership of the pill bottle, claiming that they had no idea of how it got into the room.

While speaking with both men, the officer noticed that they had symptoms of recent drug use. After being questioned about their marijuana usage, they admitted that they had smoked marijuana off campus earlier in the night. They again stated there was no marijuana in the room.

The prescription pill bottle was placed into property as evidence and both students were reported to the Dean of Students for drug paraphernalia.

Men pitch pot from parking garage

A UAPD officer was conducting a garage check at the Tyndall Avenue Garage on Jan. 17 when he noticed four men sitting against a short wall. The officer could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the area.

The four men were identified by two Arizona drivers’ licenses, a California license and a New Jersey license.

When asked whether or not they had been smoking, they all replied that they had been earlier.

The men said when they saw the patrol car come toward them and stop, they threw the marijuana and smoking pipe over the edge of the garage.

Another officer found the marijuana at the bottom of the ramp inside a Motrin pill bottle. The officer also found a smashed glass smoking pipe without a bowl.

The men said they had pooled money together to buy the marijuana from an unknown man at a house party off campus earlier in the week.

The total amount of marijuana found was 33.3 grams. It was placed into UAPD property with a request to be destroyed and the incident was referred to the Dean of Students Office.

The student said the pipe was used twice over winter break at his home in California and that he had not used it while in Arizona.

Babe’s bong seen by boys in blue

University of Arizona Police Department officers were on patrol in the parking lot North of Parker House on Nov. 29 at 2:30 p.m. when they observed an unoccupied Ford Explorer with its lights on.

Officers approached the vehicle and looked inside to make sure the vehicle had not been tampered with or vandalized. Officers saw a glass bong that was left in plain sight on the passenger seat.

Officers left the area and drove around the block to try to locate the vehicle’s owner.

When officers returned, they saw that two women were inside of the vehicle. As the driver was attempting to back out of her parking space, officers activated their emergency lights and sirens. Officers approached the vehicle and made contact with the driver and observed that the glass bong had been moved to a pink computer bag that was sitting in between the passenger’s legs.

Officers told the women that they had seen a bong in plain view and the driver stated that it belonged to a friend. Officers smelled the strong odor of burnt marijuana during questioning and asked the driver if she would consent to a search of the vehicle. A search revealed a bag of marijuana, a small amount of loose marijuana, two glass pipes, a pink glass bong, and a tin containing loose marijuana and burnt marijuana residue.

The driver told police that some of the loose marijuana could have possibly belonged to other passengers that had previously been in the vehicle. She further claimed that all the other paraphernalia and marijuana belonged to her friends who she declined to identify. She stated that she allowed her friends to store their marijuana and paraphernalia in her car because they had no other place to keep it. The passenger denied that any of the marijuana or paraphernalia belonged to her either. Neither woman showed any signs of impairment. The passenger was cited on charges of possession of narcotics paraphernalia. The driver was cited on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of narcotics paraphernalia. Both women were released on scene and the incident has been referred to the Dean of Students Office.
